According to authorities, Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody after reportedly attacking and threatening a ride-sharing driver in Hollywood.
Sutherland “entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats” on Monday at 00:15 PST (08:15 GMT), according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
According to the LAPD, the victim was unharmed in the event.
Sutherland, 59, was freed following the payment of a $50,000 (£37,000) bond. His court appearance is scheduled for February 2. His reps have been approached by the BBC for comment.
The LAPD’s Hollywood Division is looking into the incident, which happened in Hollywood at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
Sutherland is the son of actor Donald Sutherland and is well-known for his appearances as US president in Designated Survivor and special agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s 24.
The Canadian actor has been jailed many times in the past and was given a 48-day prison term in 2007 for driving while intoxicated and breaking his probation.
He was most recently arrested in 2020 after doing an unauthorized U-turn in Hollywood. In 2009, he was detained for assault, however the prosecution was eventually dismissed.
