Man City signs Antoine Semenyo in £65 million deal

The Premier League champions activated Semenyo’s release clause before the stipulated deadline on Saturday, securing the 26-year-old winger in what becomes a record sale for Bournemouth. Manchester City will pay £62.5 million in 24 monthly instalments, with additional bonuses tied to performance milestones.

Semenyo, who was born in London but represents Ghana at the international level, has penned a long-term contract with City that runs until 2031. He will don the number 42 shirt, a number famously worn by club legend Yaya Toure, who lifted three Premier League titles during his eight-year stint at the Etihad.

Expressing his delight at the transfer, Semenyo said: “I am so proud to have joined Manchester City. They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola]. I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here. My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that.”

The forward bid an emotional farewell to Bournemouth by netting a dramatic stoppage-time winner in their 3-2 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, capping off his time with the Cherries on a high note.
