The government has established a new producer price for cocoa, putting it at GH¢41,392 per tonne for the balance of the 2025/2026 crop season. The decision aims to stabilize the industry and help farmers.
The new price, established by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), becomes effective today, Thursday, February 12. The revised pricing equals GH¢2,587 per bag.
Addressing the press on Thursday, February 12, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated that the decision was influenced by current conditions on the world cocoa market.
He stated that the change matches current global cocoa pricing and is designed to restore trust in the sector.
The Minister also stated that the new rate is likely to infuse immediate liquidity into the cocoa value chain, allowing for faster payments to farmers who have faced delays in previous months and relieving financial strains at the farm level.

He stated that the price change is part of larger measures aimed at ensuring Ghana’s cocoa industry’s long-term viability. He described the step as important to stabilize the industry, boost its financial position, and provide better outcomes for cocoa growers.
“As a result of that, the PPRC thereby announces that effective today, Thursday 12th February 2026, the new producer price for the remainder of the 2025–2026 crop season will now be 41,392 Ghana Cedis per ton and 2,587 Ghana Cedis per bag,” he said.
The revised cost indicates a decrease from the initial price published at the start of the 2025/26 harvest season.
The producer price was set at US$5,040 per tonne, a 62.58 percent increase in currency terms. In cedi, that corresponds to GH¢51,660 per tonne or GH¢3,228.75 each bag.
