A female suspect is presently in arrest at the Dansoman Police Station, aiding with continuing investigations into the event.
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the baby was reported stolen from the Mamprobi Polyclinic in the Ablekuma South constituency. Following a notification from the child’s relatives and medical officials, the Ghana Police Service quickly initiated a search operation.
The police, community people, the worried family, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, and the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, all worked together to ensure the infant’s successful recovery.
Addressing journalists at the Dansoman Police Station on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Dr. Lartey praised the police for their rapid response and hailed the whistleblower for providing critical information that led to the baby’s survival.
“We found the baby. We want to say thank you to the whistleblower and the police that they have been able to work to get the baby united with the mother. The police can attest that yes, that is the baby, the parents have confirmed and then the suspect is in police custody,” she stated.

The minister stated that both the baby and the mother would receive the required medical care to ensure their safety and well-being. She stated that the infant and mother were returned to the Mamprobi Polyclinic for medical assessment. Doctors have indicated that the baby is now undergoing treatment and being closely monitored.
Dr. Lartey went on to say that her ministry is working together with the Ministry of Health and security agencies to tighten facility safety protocols and prevent similar situations from happening again.
“The most important thing is that we are going to support the polyclinic to redeem its image and then we are also going to work with the Health Ministry to ensure that the systems and structures we have in place are secured enough for patients and health workers as well,” she added.
The minister also stated that a police presence will be maintained at the facility to prevent any potential reprisals by community members against health staff or the polyclinic itself.
Investigations are continue to uncover how the suspect obtained access to the kid and whether anyone else was involved in the crime.
