Power stability has been established using GH₵1-per-litre Energy Levy – Government

The government has justified the use of the GH₵1-per-litre Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy revenues, claiming that the program has made a substantial contribution to stabilizing Ghana’s electricity supply.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, stated that the tax has been successfully implemented to solve issues in the energy industry and guarantee reliable electricity delivery.

He said these things on Tuesday, January 14, during a news conference as part of the Government Accountability Series.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said, “What is evident is that the energy levy has been put to good use and has contributed significantly to achieving stability in the power sector.”

He claims that compared to previous times when there were frequent interruptions, the nation’s electrical condition has significantly improved.

“There were issues with power stability when we took over, and I think we can all confirm that it has been steady for a few months now. The disruptions that many had anticipated have not happened,” he continued.

The Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy was implemented as part of initiatives to strengthen the power sector’s financial viability and pay off historical obligations. However, stakeholders have called for transparency.
