Family discloses why former NPP parliamentary candidate stabbed his wife in the United States

The family of Gilda Nortey, wife of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has spoken out about the shocking stabbing incident in the United States, blaming it on a heated domestic dispute over divorce threats.

In an interview with Citi News, the victim’s relatives described the events that led up to the alleged attack, expressing significant worry and seeking justice for Gilda.

Gilda Nortey’s uncle, David Gyapanin, described how a little quarrel turned into violence.

“They had a little argument, and my niece said she may file for divorce if things continue that way. My niece said Valentino threatened to either kill himself or kill her. He stabbed her three times. She pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. He agreed on the condition that she would not mention his name,” Mr. Gyapanin stated.

He further stated that, despite her injuries, Gilda was able to drive herself to the hospital where she works, using the vehicle keys she had on her.

“Fortunately, she had the car key and managed to drive to the hospital where she works. She’s getting better. As a family, we want nothing less than justice,” he emphasized.

Mr. Gyapanin emphasized the family’s determination to seek justice, regardless of location.

“It happened in the States, and we want to believe that the laws there will be enforced fully. You can’t marry someone’s daughter, and just because she says she no longer wants the marriage, decide to end her life. If justice isn’t served in the States, when he comes to Ghana, we will seek justice,” he said.

Lower Paxton Township Police in Pennsylvania reported that the event occurred at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, near Mayfair Drive in Lower Paxton Township. Police verified that the person was taken to the hospital by first responders and is now in stable condition. They also informed the public that there is no current threat.

Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, 41, of Harrisburg, has been arrested and charged with attempted homicide, possession of a criminal instrument with intent to use, and tampering with or falsifying physical evidence.

According to online court records, Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who refused his bail request. He is currently incarcerated at Dauphin County Prison and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026.
